Solomon sentencing to wait

OXFORD COUNTY — Defense attorneys in the case of Dawn Solomon, who pled guilty in December to defrauding the MaineCare system for $4 million, were granted a continuance in her sentencing hearing.

Her sentencing has been pushed back to at least April. According to the courts, the continuance was granted for "family reasons."

Specific reasons for the continuance were unavailable to the press. According to Thimi Mina, defense attorney for Solomon, this is because the defense also made a motion to seal the decision, which was also granted. Mina alluded to personal reasons which were too sensitive to be revealed to the public, but couldn't give any particular reason behind sealing the decision.

Officials of the court suggested that the continuance would also allow both sides more time to assemble their evidence before the sentencing. This works to the benefit of both counsels and, thus, the judge's ability to arrive at a fair sentencing.

Solomon pled guilty to overbilling the MaineCare system by $4 million through her company, Living Independence Network. Her crime is classified as a class C felony and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. She also may be responsible for the full $4 million in restitution.
