ATV owner angry at town

PARIS — Citizen Cliff Goodwin blasted the town for revoking permission for ATV traffic on Parsons Road during a meeting of the Board of Selectmen on Monday.

Goodwin, who lives near Parsons Road, says that he subsists on a limited income, and that the board has taken something away from him and his wife.

"I bought a new machine," said Goodwin, "and unless something is done to the contrary, I'm going to have to lose three or four thousand dollars because you people said that it was okay."

Goodwin says that he can no longer use his ATV, because he has no legal way to access area trails.

"If I want to move my ATV, I've got to buy a trailer that's 18 feet long," he said. "I've got to buy a 4-wheel-drive pickup to pull it. I can't afford it."

After Goodwin spoke, representatives of the X-tra Mile ATV Club asked the board to reconsider its January 10 decision related to ATV access. Members of the board did not take action on the request.

On January 10, the board revoked permission for ATV users to ride on the extreme right of Parsons Road in response to complaints from one household on the road.

Goodwin said that he had not purchased his machine until after the board granted permission to use Parsons Road, which was over the summer. ATVs may still use four other roads that have been identified by the town.
