Harrison plans Fishing Derby
HARRISON — Harrison's Youth and Family Ice Fishing Derby, sponsored by Western Maine Fish & Game in partnership with Harrison Parks and Recreation and IFW's "Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs," will be held Saturday, February 23, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Long Lake, 11 miles from Harrison to Naples.
Announcement of Derby and raffle winners will take place at 4 p.m. at the Harrison Town Office. You don’t have to be present to win your raffle or Derby prize or Ice Shack.
Register for the Derby at the Harrison Town Office until Friday, February 22 and then the day of the derby at the Harrison Long Lake Boat Launch.
Win a Lifetime Youth Fishing License: Western Maine Fish & Game is donating two licenses to a child age five and under who catches the smallest legal fish based on weight with the discriminator being length and Joe Jack, owner of Lake Region Outfitters and Registered Maine Guide, donated a license to a youth age six-15 who catches the largest fish with discriminator being largest of most different species caught.
Fees are $2 for ages 0-10, $2 for ages 11-15 and $5 for ages 16+. Note: This derby is sanctioned by IF&W, meaning adults who are not actively fishing can assist their children without a Maine Fishing License but are required to register with the Derby and are required to fish in the sanctioned area.
What you get for participating in the Derby:
• First 100 children registered, ages 0-15, will receive a Tip Up.
• Each category winner will receive a prize and a chance to win a Youth Lifetime Fishing License.
• All participants have the option to have an Ice Fishing Demonstration and Instructions.
• Registered Maine Guides and volunteers from the community will have pre-drilled holes in the sanctioned area.
• Live Bait will be available.
• Hot chocolate and roasting s’mores over an outdoor fire.
• Hamburgers and hot dogs off the grill.
A number of raffles will be available for $1/ticket. Items such as a cord of wood, propane, gift certificates and much more! Ice Shack raffle tickets are $2 each, $5 for three and $10 for seven. Win the shack or $500 cash.
