Important win for Oxford Hills boys
OXFORD HILLS — Thursday night's game against Cony was a good one for the Vikings. Oxford Hills won 66-60 in a hard fought game by both teams. For the first time this season the boys varsity and the girls varsity didn't play on the same night, giving the girls the opportunity to take a road trip to Augusta to cheer on the Viking boys. Andrew Fleming scored the first basket for the Vikes. Jake Plummer put in two and the foul shot to convert the and one. Matty Beauchesne took a charge in the first quarter. He didn't return to the game as a precaution due to his head hitting the floor. This meant that Kenny Lynch played more at the point guard position.
Ryan Godin hit two threes in the first quarter, both off assists from Fleming. In the second quarter John Frechette and Luke Davidson hit key shots for the Vikings. Plummer took a charge for the second player control foul on Cony. Dalton Rice got two points off a put back. At halftime the Vikings were up 34-29.
The Vikings came out strong with Plummer scoring the first basket of the half for OH. Lynch hit a fadeaway jumper from the elbow. Frechette hit a shot from the left and Godin banked one in for two. Lynch had a strong showing for the Vikings making key free throws in the last minute of the game.
For the second game in a row, Davidson played an amazing offensive game for the 6-8 Vikings, scoring a game high 19.
The Lady Vikings' team spirit and enthusiasm brought the boys good luck for their first road victory of the 2012-2013 season. The boys returned the favor Friday night. The girls rallied from a 16 point deficit to lose to Cony by three.
