OXFORD HILLS — On January 8, the OHCHS Boys Varsity Basketball team got off to a great start.

The Vikings beat Skowhegan 62-48 in front of a home-town crowd at the high school. The leading scorers were Andrew Fleming with 12 and Jake Plummer and Dalton Rice both tossed in 10.

Late in the first, Fleming put two on the board off a nice jumper from inside the paint. Then immediately after Matty Beauchesne took the first of his four player control fouls. After Beauchesne took the charge he gave it to Fleming for two more. Fleming got hot. He had another two points off a finger roll in a fast break. He had eight of his 12 points in the first quarter.

Plummer, who was back in the line-up after a tendon injury, got an inside pass for two points and a foul shot. He missed the foul shot, but the Vikings got the rebound. Jordan Croteau swished it in for two.

Croteau started off the second quarter hitting another jumper from just inside the three-point line. Ryan Godin hit a jumper while fading out of bounds.

The Vikings continued to play well, running away with a 14-point lead to win the game.

Their next game was to a tough Messalonskee team in Oakland on Friday night. The boys rallied from an 11-point deficit and were down by only three with just over a minute to play.

Unfortunately, the Eagles pulled off a victory, winning by six. Jake Plummer had another fantastic game scoring 12 points for Oxford Hills.

The Viking's record fell to 4-6 with two must-win games coming this week. The boys will take on Bangor and Lewiston.
