CELEBRATION — The Vikings win 71-68 over Lewiston in the home opener.

OXFORD HILLS — The 71-68 win over Lewiston was a great way to start off the season for the Vikings Boys Basketball team.

Being down by one at the half didn't mean anything to Oxford Hills as it took a sizable lead going into the fourth quarter. Come the fourth quarter, the fans were very involved in the game. It was like sitting in the Boston Garden during game seven of the NBA finals.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Lewiston coach, Tim Farrar, received a technical foul which allowed Viking Ryan Godin to sink two clutch free throws.

"It felt good to hit those free throws, it's pretty easy when it's just you and the gym," said Godin. "If you just concentrate on the play at hand it's easy. It really felt good."

It was not easy for Jake Plummer to play Friday night after the drowning death of his best friend, Josh Wardwell earlier in the week, but Jake came and delivered with 12 points in the win.

"It meant the world to me to come away with a win," said Plummer. "Josh has been my best friend since Kindergarten."

"I guess I did feel on fire." said Luke Davidson after his great game Friday. Davidson picked up 25 points for a game high.

This win puts Coach Graffam even closer to his 300th win. But when asked how it felt to be one win away he said, "I don't want to talk about that," as he walked off smiling.

The Vikings hope to carry this momentum into their next home game, Friday, December 14, at 7 p.m.

Let's pack the gym, Vikings basketball is back and here to stay!
