Oxford Hills Karate Team competes
OXFORD HILLS — Oxford Hills Karate and Mixed Martial Arts Academy team members traveled to New York on November 3 to compete in the AIKC- American International Full Contact Karate Championships.
Team members entered multiple divisions from grappling to kata and semi contact. This competition was the first tournament for five out of six team members.
Five-year-old team member Zak Place finished second in kata. His nine-year-old brother, Sean Place, finished third in forms. Both team members from the kids karate program were competing for the first time. Neisa Browne, proud mom of Zak and Sean, placed second in kata and third in kumite.
Mixed Martial Arts competitor Dustin Theriault placed second in the men's lightweight grappling division after five matches. Dustin's competition history includes two MMA cage fights with New England Fights.
Other MMA team members who put in an outstanding effort in their first competition include Angela Theriault and Joshua Westberry. All three competitors are preparing to compete in February on the next MMA card for NEF.
Point competitors will be preparing for the Battle of Maine at the Winslow Sukee Arena in March.
