Hebron’s senior forward Lilly Bourget scored a goal with eight seconds left in the first half to put the Lumberjacks ahead and claim the game-winner on the day. On defense, freshman Darby Tuttle and sophomore Sarah Brouwer joined Bourget as all three recorded their first career start in Hebron colors.
Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Lawson also recorded her first career start for the Lumberjacks playing the first half and recording zero saves. Molly Bloomingdale had the exact same stat line in the second half and each of these goalkeepers have played 100 minutes of shutout soccer on the season.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Lumberjacks started slowly but the ball was in Hyde’s defensive end of the field for much of the opening half. The Lumberjacks only recorded five shots in the half, and it was the final shot that found the back of the net. Senior Emily Wyman played a diagonal through ball to junior Lexie Stefekos. Stefekos’ shot hit the near post and Bourget pounced on the rebound from two yards away. It was a strong end to the half, and Hebron managed to keep Hyde at bay allowing just two shots in the first 40 minutes.
In the second half of play, the Lumberjacks turned on the pressure early to record three goals in the opening 15 minutes. Sophomore Ashley Conrad recorded her first goal of the season off a cross from senior Haley Bisson just 90 seconds after halftime. In the 52nd minute, Bourget recorded her second goal of the day off a pass from Conrad and then Conrad scored her second just two minutes later. Bisson set up Conrad’s second goal as well.
The final 25 minutes of the game continued to show Hebron with high pressure as they created many chances and finished the game with 19 shots – 14 in the second half. The Lumberjacks missed a penalty kick when the score was 4-0, and they were awarded an indirect kick in the penalty box in the first half. Overall, it was another strong showing by Hebron and it was a good way to bounce back after the first loss of the season.
On Saturday, Hebron hosted Gould as part of Homecoming Weekend. During the 2011 season, Gould earned two regular season wins over the Lumberjacks, but Hebron won the MAISAD semifinal contest 5-0. Saturday’s matchup was a good opportunity for both schools to try to earn an important league victory.
