Waterford 5K opens registration

WATERFORD — Once again, time to start planning your October calendar to include the 13th Waterford Fall Foliage 5k Road Race and 1k Fun Run...and the always delicious and fun Great Western Chili Cook-off.

On October 7, in Waterford Flats at the common, the Fun Run will start at 11:30 a.m., and the 5K at noon, out and back for a scenic race through the picturesque village of Waterford.

Chili will be free for the runners at the finish of the race and available for a nomimal fee for spectators. There will be free shirts for all pre-registrants. The cost for the Fun Run is $5, and for the 5K is $15, pre-registered, or $20 race day.

There is designated parking within walking distance of the start, porta potties near registration, and roads will be closed at 11:20 a.m. Please, no baby strollers or pets in the event.

Registration forms are in local stores in the area, and on-line registration can be found at www.active.com or www.running4free.com.

All money raised goes to the Tony Waldeier Scholarship Fund for Waterford graduating seniors pursuing further education.  Awards and prizes are awarded after the race, including real Maine maple syrup, in the various age categories.
