There is always next year ...

OXFORD HILLS — The Vikings' season culminated last Wednesday night when they faced the ninth place Mt. Ararat Eagles.  The winner of this game would move on to the quarter finals at the Augusta Civic Center.

The OHCHS gym was packed, with it's largest crowd of the season.  The Vikings got off to a quick start when Andrew Fleming hit his first three shots to put OH on a 6-0 run.  The rest of the team showed that they wanted to win on the defensive end.  Matty Beauchesne and Jordan Croteau took charges.

Unfortunately the Eagles went on an 11-1 run in the second quarter.  At half-time the score was 27-21 in favor of the Eagles.

Was it too late for the Vikings?  Down by ten points with five minutes remaining senior, Ryan Godin, went off.  He drained four three pointers. The excitment of the crowd was deafening.  The gym was rocking.  Oxford Hills scored 20 points in the fourth quarter in incredible comeback.  They lost 53-52.  Godin's 17 points was the game high.

If the enthusuasm of the crowd, including the awesome high school band, under the direction of Kyle Jordan, is any indication of the future of Oxford Hills basketball, then look forward to some exciting years to come.

Last week KVAC awards were announced.  Receiving awards for the Vikings were:  Jake Plummer: B Team, Luke Davidson: Honorable Mention, Matty Beauchesne:  Defensive Team, Andrew Fleming:  Rookie Team, Jordan Croteau and Ryan Godin:  All Academic Team.
