What do you know about ...

The Advertiser Democrat is launching a new contest series, open to any K-12 students. (Although we began in December, because of the holidays we have decided to give everyone another chance to enter.)

Each month, we'll choose a subject and your job is to show us how much you know about it.

Don't just tell us what it means, but tell us how it came to be, how it affects/affected people, what is good or bad about it, is it important?

A winner will chosen at random from all the correct submissions and will receive $10 and their photo in the Advertiser Democrat on the last Thursday of the month.

Rules

• You are allowed to use any resources for research, (we recommend the library) but the answer must be in your own words. Plagiarism (copying someone else's words) will not be accepted.

• Submissions must be at least half a page but no more than one page long.

• Submissions must be received by the Advertiser Democrat no later than the third Thursday of the month.

• Submissions must be mailed or dropped off at the newspaper office (corner of Main Street and Pikes Hill) with the entire original page of the newspaper on which the topic is printed. Photo copies are not accepted.

Entries must include:

Full name

Age

Grade and School

Parent or guardian name
