Students continue holiday tradition

DECORATING — This is the 12th year that OHMS students will brighten up the holidays for Oxford Hannaford customers by decorating grocery bags. On Wednesday, December 19, some of the seventh grade artists and poets will be offering the bags free to Hannaford customers as they come in to shop. Putting finishing touches on their bags are, from left, William McLaughlin, Lila Rehmert, James Doucette and Ebony Wells.

PARIS — Once again, every seventh grade student at Oxford Hills Middle School is busy decorating Hannaford grocery bags with holiday cutouts and poems.

The tradition began in 2001 and is now coordinated at the Middle School by Brenda Mariner, Language Arts Department Head.

This year the students will be decorating both cloth and paper bags. They will leave it up to Hannaford customers to choose which one they would like to bring home.

This is a wonderful way for the students to say thank you and Happy Holidays to the generous Oxford Hills Community. Maureen Howard, Director of the Oxford Hills Community Education Exchange, coordinates this annual program.
