OHMS parent teacher conferences
PARIS — The hallways of Oxford Hills Middle School were all abuzz on Thursday, November 1. One might think this was due to an excess of Halloween candy ingested by middle school students.
However, Thursday was a day for parents to be in the building to attend parent/student/teacher conferences. This year, in addition to the conferences, parents were able to also browse about the hallways and chat with people from several different organizations who set up tables to share the resources of their programs.
This is the first of an on-going attempt to help bridge available resources with families in the district.
The organizations who set up for this event are as follows: Norway Recreation Dept., Oxford Recreation Dept., Paris, West Paris, Harrison and Waterford Libraries, Healthy Oxford Hills (“Let’s Go 5210"), Kiwanis, University of Maine and Western Maine Community College, Tri-County Mental Health, Community Concepts, REACH, SAD 17 Adult Education, “How to Help your Student be Successful in School” table, Responsible Pet Care, Right Start ”Christmas for Teens” and “Christmas for Kids” and Cooperative Extension, Bryant Pond 4H Camp.
Parents also viewed the required short video and signed the agreement form about the responsibilities related to the students being able to take their laptops home. All in all, the turnout was successful.
The school looks forward to repeating the event at conferences on February 6, 2013. If you would like to have your organization represented, please contact Cheryl Lang at 743-5946 or cheryl_lang@sad17.k12.me.us.
