Voting

Kudos to our third-, fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders who recently completed NECAP testing. Students worked very hard and gave extra effort to try to move us out of the CIPs status.

Poet

We welcomed Maine poet, Paul Janeczko, to our school on Monday, October 29. He worked with our second through sixth grade. Thanks to the PTO for sponsoring him.

Election

Third- through sixth-graders participated in a Mock Election on Tuesday, October 30. Students needed to register to vote prior to that day. On election day, voters will help elect president, senator, and representative. This information will be reported to the State as part of the mock election results. We took it one step further however by holding an electoral college, made up of two representatives from each homeroom. Each classroom picked a state and got that many electoral votes. States were assigned based on the size of the classroom – bigger classes get bigger states.

Aspiring

The Aspire Higher project is in full swing and will continue for the next couple of weeks. Each school was asked to host several activities in addition to participation in the march that was held on Tuesday this week. Stop by the school and look at the posters each teacher has made advertising the colleges they went to.

Sixth-graders are reading public service announcements that they have written about colleges and careers. These will be broadcast during morning announcements and throughout the day. On Monday, November 5, we hosted a special Veterans’ Assembly beginning. Area veterans were invited in to talk to children about the benefits of serving our nation in the armed forces after high school graduation.

On November 16 we will have a brief assembly beginning at 2:30 p.m. to give out eight college scholarships sponsored by area businesses.

Website

The PTO has launched a new website/blog to keep you informed about all their activities. Access it at: http://parispto.blogspot.com/. Thanks to Jay Lester for getting this going.

Concert

On November 19 our K-2 children will be performing in a fall concert beginning at 1:30 in the gym. They’ve been practicing all fall and are eager to share their music with you. Please join us for this special event which is sure to bring a smile to everyone’s faces.

Welcome

Welcome to Mrs. Pam Williams who has been hired as a Library and Special Education Ed Tech. Carol Walker is now working between our school and Oxford Elementary in the library and Pam has taken over her former position. We’re pleased to welcome Pam to our school.
