Oxford Elementary School

Apples

With the help of Classroom volunteers, students in Mrs. C’s First Grade class celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day. Students made apple life-cycle bracelets, apple smiles, apple sauce, and an apple quilt. Thank you Mrs. Wright, Ms. Bartlett , Mrs. Marti n, Mrs. Cayer, and Ms. Johnson for helping to make this day so special.

Words

As a fun way to learn new vocabulary words, students have been introduced to a new “Word of the Week” each Monday. Students have been encouraged to find the meanings of the words then write sentences, stories or draw pictures that include the word. A few students each week have even read their work to others during our morning announcements. Please help us spread the excitement talking to your student about the “Word of the Week” and it’s meaning.

Hat Day

We are very proud of our Student Council members for wanti ng to help those within  our community who are in need.

On September 26th students and staff  could wear a hat to school if they donated  25 cents or a non-perishable item.

What a fun day we had. Students Council was able to raise more than $40 dollars and donated three big boxes of non-perishable food items to the local food panty. Way to go everyone.

6th Grade lobster

Deb Johnson got the sixth grade marine animal unit kicked off by bringing in lobster friends for a mini lesson. Students played 20 Questions to fi nd out what was in the box. Groups received a lobster to study and drew scientific drawings. They even got to sample a piece of cooked lobster in melted butter. Yum!
