Helping students in memory of Alice Cornwall
Photo: PACK THE BUS — In memory of Alice Cornwall, Oxford Hannaford will have a box in place so shoppers can buy and leave school supplies that will be distributed to needy students in all Oxford Hills District schools. Mrs. Cornwall launched the drive 15 years ago and it continues in her memory. From left are Moe Bilodeau, Hannaford store manager and Rick Colpitts, SAD #17 Superintendent. OXFORD — For the 15th year, the Hannaford store in Oxford is providing a box where shoppers may drop off donated school supplies for local children. The annual program to collect school supplies for students in SAD #17 will be underway at the store this week. Mrs. Alice Cornwall originally launched the program after she heard that some children in the area could not afford to purchase necessary school supplies. The donation box will be in place throughout August and the first part of September.
Maureen Mooney-Howard, Director of the Education Exchange and coordinator of the Program, hopes that customers, when shopping for their groceries, will buy a school item and drop it in the box as they are leaving the store. The supplies will be collected and distributed to the students in all 10 District schools.
If individuals or community organizations would like to participate in the program by collecting school supplies or make a cash donation, please contact Maureen at 743-8914 x5209. All checks should be made out to SAD #17 (attention Pack The Bus Program) and sent to 1570 Main Street, Oxford, ME 04270.
