Agnes Gray School

Valentine's Day Lunch

Thanks to the many volunteers who helped to make this Valentine Day luncheon on February 15 a big success! With the many crock pot meals and yummy desserts along with a beautifully decorated cafeteria, students were delighted with their meal.

 Science Experiment

Is the temperature beneath the snow different from the temperature above the snow? In a book about animal survival, second graders questioned how animals could survive cold temperatures by tunneling under the snow surface. They developed the following experiment:

• one thermometer on top, one in the middle and one beneath the snow layer

• recorded temperatures repeated three times

• recorded and compared outside air temperatures

• analyzed results

The scientists observed that most (but not all) temperatures were warmer beneath the snow than in the air. They concluded that sun, wind and moisture may change the snow temperature. Some hypothesized that snow can be like the fluff in a jacket.

Second graders captured all their leaning into a Science Journal.

Klondike

Once again this year, our students had a wonderful afternoon as they went from Alaskan town to Alaskan town answering questions for gold nuggets. There were many volunteers who came to help us out with this event. We want to give a big Thank You to each and every one of you. Without your help, our Agnes Gray Klondike would to have been such a big success.
