A Word A Day

Monday

Adore: love and respect (someone) deeply; worship, venerate. (They really adore their celebrities don't they?)

Tuesday

Caustic: able to burn or corrode; severely critical or sarcastic. (Don't touch that puddle, it's caustic! Madam, I found your remarks to be unreasonably caustic.)

Wednesday

Expel: to drive or force out or away; to cut off from membership or relations. (If you don't straighten up your act, we will have to expel you from the chess club.)

Thursday

Revenues: income, especially when of a company or organization and of a substantial nature. (If we can keep revenues up, we can hire more employees.)

Friday

Strait: a narrow passage of water connecting two larger bodies of water; reference to a situation with a significant degree of trouble or difficulty. (The ship's crew only realised how much of a strait it was in when it entered the dangerous strait.)
