A Word A Day

Monday

Obstruct: Be or get in the way of; prevent or hinder. (All the plowed snow obstructs the driveway.)

Tuesday

Champion: Support the cause of, defend. (She is a lawyer who champions children's rights.)

Wednesday

Fissure:  A long narrow opening or crack made by splitting, especially in rock or earth. A separation or disagreement in thought or viewpoint. (There were fissures in the political party.)

Thursday

Collaborate: Work jointly on an activity; cooperate traitorously with an enemy. (If we collaborate, we can finish this assignment; he was widely thought to have been a collaborator during the occupation.)

Friday

Fulcrum: The point on which a lever rests or is supported. A thing that plays a central or essential role in an activity or event. (With a fulcrum, we can lift that boulder out. This evidence is the fulcrum of my argument.)
