Agnes Gray School news

Klondike is coming

On Friday, February 15, teams of students from all grades will be traveling from "town to town" on the grounds of the Agnes Gray School. This is a race to collect gold nuggets for every question which is answered correctly.

The characters in the Klondike race will be dogs, drivers, mayors, mounties and the assayer. Students, parents, teachers and volunteers will be placed in these roles.

Teams of students will compete for gold and honor. One student is designated to be a "driver" and the remainder are the "dogs." Just before the competition starts, a map is given to the "driver" designating the order in which the team needs to visit the designated Alaskan town.

We will be needing lots of volunteers to man the towns and help with our younger teams.

Our PTO will provide refreshments and drinks for everyone. Activities will be starting at about 1:30 p.m. but volunteers should be here by 1:15 p.m. Students need to be dressed for the weather with extra mittens and socks. Many sleds will be provided here at Agnes Gray. If a student does wish to bring a sled, it needs to be a plastic sled (snowboat) with a rope handle and permission needs to be given by the bus driver.

Won't you join us on Friday, February 15 in the afternoon for our annual Klondike experience?

Air Pressure Machine

The Venturi Meter Demonstration from the Maine Air Museum as part of a grant during STEM month was available to each of our Agnes Gray students during their library visits. By turning the valves located at the front of the machine, it will allow air to come through and it will effect the level of the fluid in the tubes.

Students were able to discover that different speed air caused different fluid levels. Some questions which the students asked included: "Which tube does the fluid stay the highest?" (Has the least pressure on it.) "Which tube does the fluid go down the lowest?" (Has the most pressure on it.) "What does this mean about the pressure going through the tube at the top?"

Valentine's Day Luncheon

A very special free luncheon will be served for all students on Friday, February 15. No cafeteria meal will be served on this day. The luncheon will include crock pot meals, veggie platter and a dessert. Even though this is the day after Valentine's Day, it will be great fun to have a special lunch and celebrate the upcoming week's vacation.

PTO Book Fair

We want to thank Terry Merrill, Sarah Timm, Chip Dodge and Charles Landers for working in shifts to cover this book fair on Wednesday during parent/student/teacher conferences.

Two kindergarten students, Sophie and Anthony, are checking out the books at the Book Fair, February 7, which has been going on all week. Please note that these two are in costume for the 100th day of school in this 2012-2913 school year.

Student Authors' Night a big success

This family night held last week had a great attendance along with wonderful reviews. Students in all grades shared their writing portfolios with parents and grandparents. Many of the attending families first enjoyed a meal together which was provided as a fundraiser for the Explorers.

Staff Member of Month

We are very proud of Diane Todd who is in charge of food service here at Agnes Gray. She is a very conscientious and friendly person who devotes some of her own time to keeping the cafeteria running smoothly.

Both students and staff always find that she can lift the spirits of all of us with her positive attitude and willingness to help.

Our staff and students honored her at Agnes Gray on Wednesday when she was told of this honor!

Congratulations, Diane, our district couldn’t have picked a more deserving person to be the staff member of the month!
