Margaret Ames
OXFORD — Margaret Ames, 77, of Oxford died Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. She was born in Otisfield on February 4, 1935 to Warren and Doris (Crocker) Berry. She married George “Eddie” Ames on September 10, 1954 and they had many great years together until his death in 1988.
She worked at several local shoe shops in the area, before retiring due to her dad's ill health. She was a past member of the Oxford Fireman’s Auxiliary. She really enjoyed helping out with the annual variety show. She was also a past member of the Anderson Staples Post #112 American Legion. She helped her dad out at Bingo on Saturday nights. She was also a past member of the Norway American Legion. She was an avid candlepin bowler for many years in the Oxford Hills area.
Mrs. Ames is survived by five children, Bonnie Jean Difazio and husband Daniel of Norway, Kevin Ames and companion Yvette Lizotte of Oxford, Colleen Landers and husband Charles Jr. of West Paris, Kelly Ames and fiancé Eric Fredrick of Oxford and George F. Ames and wife Roxanne of Waterford; seven grandchildren, SSgt. Scott Grant of Fort Benning, GA, Erin Kasperek of Norway, Brianna Henderson and husband Mike of West Paris, Gerrit Taylor and Matthew Taylor of Colorado and Joseph and Juliane Difazio of Norway; seven great-grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua, Dominic, Brooke, Claire Bear, BailyBoo and William; a sister, Beverly Farrell of Norway; sister-in-law, Sandra Berry of Mechanic Falls; brothers, Richard Berry of Bryant Pond, Robert Berry and wife Barbara of Mechanic Falls and Donald Berry and wife Sandra of Plymouth and brother-in-law, Elwood “Jr” Dunn of Oxford. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; sisters, Elizabeth and Waneta; brother, Larry and brothers–in-law, Ed Farrell and Raymond Verrill.
A celebration of Mrs. Ames' life will be held on Sunday, February 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Norway American Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to Oxford Fire & Rescue, 701 Main Street, Oxford, ME 04270.
