BRIDGTON — Katherine Stuart Grover passed away peacefully on January 19, 2013 at the Bridgton Health Care Center after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born February 9, 1941 in Morristown, NJ to Charles W. and Katherine P. Stuart, Sr., she grew up in Van Nuys, CA and spent summers in Maine with her Aunt Dot where she met her husband, William W. Grover, Sr. of Lovell.

After the birth of their first son, the family moved to High Street, South Paris where they had three more children. Mrs. Grover worked at the B.E. Cole Shoe Shop and at the food counter at J.J. Newberry’s, while completely devoted to raising her family.

She spent nearly 30 years as a member of the South Paris Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary “Lady Firecrackers.” As the Assistant Fire Chief’s wife, she spent numerous hours babysitting the “Red” phone.

She loved to attend her children’s school and sporting events and was always available to chaperone any trip with a bag full of bubble gum. She enjoyed painting ceramics and baking and decorating cakes. Later in life, she went to college and earned a degree in Business Administration. She will be remembered as an avid New England sports fan, music lover and Mom to everyone.

Mrs. Grover is survived by her son, William W. Grover, Jr., and wife Stephanie of Norway; daughter Christine Cushman and husband Tom of Oxford; daughter, Katherine “Bump” Hallee and husband Eric of Harrison; son, Charles E. Grover and wife Angela of Oxford; 12 beloved grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, with much love for them all. She is pre-deceased by her father, Charles; mother, Katherine and brother, Chuck, a Navy Veteran who served two tours in Vietnam, who lost his life saving three shipmates aboard the U.S.S. Princeton.

A celebration of her life will be held at Oxford Hills and Weston Funeral Services, 1037 Main St., Route 26, Oxford, on Sunday, January 27 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bridgton Residential Care Activities Fund, Attention: Linda Fifield, 186 Portland Road, Bridgton, ME 04009.
