SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ — Ruth Chamberlain Abbott passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2012, in Mesa, AZ, due to complications during heart surgery. She was 81 years old. She was born in Hartford on December 14, 1930, to the late Donald Eugene Chamberlain and Ruth Gertrude Bryant. She graduated from Leavitt Institute in 1949 on a four-year scholarship.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a full-time mission with her husband, Richard Abbott, in the Dallas, TX Mission.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Merrill and Donald Chamberlain; her sister, Marguerite Varney and two grandchildren, Crystal and Jeremy Rose.

Mrs. Abbott is survived by her husband, Richard Abbott, of San Tan Valley, AZ, who is now living in Oakland; sons, Kenneth Rose of Archer, ID and Kevin Rose of Lawson, MO; daughters, Kathlyn Thompson of Colorado Springs, CO, Karen VanNatter of San Tan Valley, AZ and stepdaughters, Kelly Paquet of Oakland and Lori Tenvold of Benton City, WA; her brother, Irving Chamberlain of Georgia and sisters, Mary White and Anna Mitchell, both from Maine. She has also left a legacy of 85 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were held December 17, 2012, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Queen Creek, AZ. A graveside service will be held in West Paris in the spring.

Mrs. Abbott enjoyed her family and friends, gardening and preserving, fishing, camping, and creating beautiful and useful things. She was known for her faith, kindness and creativity. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
