Joshua H. Wardwell
OXFORD — Joshua H. Wardwell, 17, of Oxford died Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. He was born in Lewiston on April 19, 1995, the son of Eric and Stephanie Fuller Wardwell. He was a senior at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School and was active in the Auto Tech program. His plans were to go on to college for criminal justice. He wanted to be a game warden.
Just a few weeks ago he went on a ride along with the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s office. He loved riding roller coasters with his Papa and cousin Micaela. He was an avid outdoorsman, excellent skier, water skier and motor cross racer; he recently got his Class A permit with the Carhartt Boys. He loved trapping with Shaun Wilcox. His first trap ever was a coyote. He also attended the Trappers convention in Bethel with Shaun. He climbed Mt. Washington and then skied down Tuckerman’s Ravine. He was a member of the Mt. Abram Ski School for two years and he was on the downhill ski team while in seventh and eighth grades.
He enjoyed hunting; he got his first deer this year. He spent time tapping trees to make maple syrup with his Dad. He had a passion for planes. He was in the process of building his own and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol where he achieved the rank of Cadet Commander and was named Cadet of the Year in 2008. He loved his animals, Sandy, Shelby, Charlie and Levi.
Joshua is survived by his parents of Oxford; his sister, Meghan and her fiancé Kevin; his grandparents, Don and Nancy Wardwell and Gary and Esther Fuller; his great-grandmother, Arlene Harrington; his aunt, Shannon Smith and her husband Andy; uncles, Jeff Wardwell and his wife Sally and Wayne Wardwell and his wife Jayme; his cousins, Hannah Smith, Brooke Wardwell, Travis Wardwell and Andy Wardwell and a special cousin Micaela Smith and his motorcycle friends, Randy McAllister, Taylor Moore and Kevin Scribner.
A Memorial service was held on Sunday, December 9 at the First Congregational Church, 17 East Main St., South Paris. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Responsible Pet Care, 132 Waterford Rd., Norway, ME 04268.
