LeRoy L. Hatt

NORWAY — LeRoy L. Hatt, born February 3, 1922 in Kingfield, a great and good spirit, departed this earth October 26, 2012 at the age of 90 years. As a man, husband, father, and friend, he had a commanding positive influence on those who knew him. His early years were spent in the small northern New Hampshire town of Errol. In 1940, he enlisted in the army, serving five years, in part as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division in Europe.

After WWII, he attended the Lee Institute and Wentworth Institute in Boston. He retired from GTE Sylvania after working some 30 years as a draftsman. A family man, outdoorsman and craftsman, he enjoyed woodworking, canoeing, hiking and camping. A longtime member of the North American Family Campers Association, he served as President of the Pine Tree Chapter in Buckfield from 1990 to 1992.

In 1948 he married Elizabeth Hope Stanwood of Topsfield, MA; they were married for 60 years. They had three children.

Mr. Hatt is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. of Oxford; his son, Peter E. of West Newbury, MA; his son, Roger D. and his wife Iphigenia of Temple, NH; a grandson, Charles A. and a great-granddaughter, Danielle of Indianapolis, IN; a step-granddaughter, Catherine McManus and her husband Daniel and their three girls, Rachel, Erica and Demitra of Ipswich, MA; a nephew, George A. Stanwood, III of Manchester, NH; Virginia (Walker) Hatt and Dean Walker of Bethel.

Friends are cordially invited to attend and remember this wonderful man at a service to be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 479 Main St. in Norway on Saturday, November 17 at 11:30 a.m. Those who wish to share memories of Mr. Hatt or to give readings are invited to do so. Later in the year he will be buried in Errol, NH.
