Ruth A. Malcolm

MECHANIC FALLS — Ruth A. Malcolm, 74, of Mechanic Falls died peacefully Sunday, November 4, 2012 surrounded by her family.

She was born to Carl and Anne Robert Ryder on August 9, 1938 in Somerville, MA, where she was educated, employed in the banking system, and eventually met her future husband Robert J. Malcolm through the Universalist Church.

They were married on September 9, 1961 and wasted no time starting a family of their own. Her lifelong love of music, athletics, cooking, and travel were surpassed only by her love of family, friends, and her extraordinary faith. Her strength and courage left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Mechanic Falls where she sang in the choir and a member of Colfax Rebekah Lodge #27 in Mechanic Falls. She enjoyed water aerobics, spending time with family at Small Point, playing guitar and singing with her musically inclined family.

She was her grandchildren's biggest fan as she would travel to see their games and concerts. She never turned down an opportunity to help someone in need or a chance to get together with friends. She loved being surrounded by her family and many dear friends.

Mrs. Malcolm is survived by her husband, Robert of Mechanic Falls; their five children, Bruce and wife Ruth, Roger and wife Laurie, Scott, Sonya and husband Mark and David; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Matt, Jordan, Saird, Currenn, Colby, Carston, Garrick and Tavon; three great-grandchildren, Neila, Lila and Isabella; two brothers, Wilson Ryder of Somerville, MA and Paul Ryder and wife Sue of Saco; sisters-in-law, Janet Buck and husband Bob of Brunswick, Marion Malcolm of Gardiner and Virginia Kane and husband Theodore of Wiscassett and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Jeannette; a brother, George and a granddaughter, Annika.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 10 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 17 East Main St., South Paris.

Family and friends may attend visitation on Friday, November 9 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 26 W. Dwinal St., Mechanic Falls. In lieu of flowers, love and spend time with your family and friends.

Donations may also be made in her memory to the ALS Association, Northern New England Chapter - The Concord Center, 10 Ferry Street, Suite 309, Concord, NH 03301. Online condolences may be shared with her family at www.chandlerfunerals.com.
