Harvey S. Wheeler

SOUTH PARIS — Harvey S. Wheeler, 89, of South Paris died Monday evening, August 6, 2012 at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. He was born in Oakland on December 20, 1922, the son of Oral and Lottie Merrill Wheeler. He graduated from Williams High School in Oakland, Class of 1941 and Thomas Business College in 1948 and later became an accounting instructor at both Thomas Business College and Thomas Junior College in Waterville.

Mr. Wheeler was employed many years at Paris Mfg. Co. and Gladding Paris Co. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Paris Hill Country Club. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, snow skiing and playing the piano. He was a hard working man. He faithfully served his country in the Army during WWII. He was a Technical Sergeant in the 486th AAA Battalion, attached to the 3rd Armored Division, this was the spearhead division of the First Army, in battles through France, Belgium and Germany, receiving five battle stars.

Survivors include his wife Jane (Gurney) of South Paris; daughters, Shirley Swan and her husband Tim of Oxford and Nancy Boulanger and her husband Michael of Lewiston; stepdaughters, Denise Virgin and her husband Keith of Hartford and Melissa de Silva and her husband Alan of Oxford; grandchildren, James Ventresca and his significant other Samantha Adams, Jennifer Ventresca and her husband Michael Adams, Nicholas Parsons, Rebecca Leary and her husband Michael, Andrew Boulanger, Patrick Wyman and his companion Nicole Coutourier, Derek Wyman and his wife Jade, Christopher Gilbert and his wife Sarah, Brandon de Silva and Alyssa de Silva and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Helen Shirley; a sister and four brothers.

A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 12 at 1 p.m. at the First Universalist Church in South Paris with interment to follow at Riverside Annex Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 51 US Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074 or the Maine Alzheimer’s Association, 170 US Route 1, Suite 250, Falmouth, ME 04105.
