SOUTH WOODSTOCK — Maude Alice Hadley, 78, of South Woodstock died on Monday, July 23, 2012 at Market Square Health Care Center in South Paris surrounded by family and loving caregivers.

She was born in South Woodstock on the family farm on September 12, 1933, the daughter of Walter and Evelyn Benson Appleby. She was a member of the Woodstock Seventh Day Adventist Church. She and Erlon graduated from the Woodstock Church School together, now known at Forestdale Christian School. This is where she met and married the love of her life, Erlon Hadley, on September 4, 1955.

She was a homemaker as well as an Independent Distributor for Shaklee Products for 30-plus years. She also was a bookkeeper for Hadley’s, the family business. She had the gift of service. She volunteered her time, money and car wherever she was needed. Her true passion was the Woodstock church food pantry, which she founded. She spent countless hours preparing and delivering food boxes, weighing half as much as her 92 pounds, throughout the community.

Mrs. Hadley is survived by her husband of 56 years, Erlon Hadley of South Woodstock; three sons, Lonnie Hadley of South Woodstock, Keith Hadley and wife Julie of South Woodstock and Dale Hadley of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Cleo Ryerson of South Woodstock and Betty Estabrook and husband Ray of Lisbon; a brother, Jo Pete Appleby of South Woodstock; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Helen June Heath, in 1972.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 26 at 4 p.m. at the Woodstock Seventh Day Adventist Church with interment to follow at South Woodstock Cemetery. Family and friends may attend a time of visitation on Thursday from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
