NORWAY — Robert R. Stearns, 92, of Norway passed away on July 12, 2012 at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris after a brief stay. He was born in South Paris on October 3, 1919, the son of Archie and Ruth McAllister Stearns.

He attended schools in Stoneham and Oxford and graduated from Oxford High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1941-1945. He was stationed in the South Pacific.

On November 3, 1953, he married the former Lillian G. Patten. They bought a small home on Waterford Road in Norway, where they raised four children. He worked many years at Cornwall Wood Products and a short time at National Wood Products before retiring.

Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, camping and woodworking.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years; daughters, Laurie Crockett and husband Ken; Diana Churchill and husband Gary; Vickie Durgin and husband Brian; a son Dale Stearns and partner Linda Hill; eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; stepmother, Alice Stearns; daughter, Penny Stearns; brother, Ronald Stearns and sister-in-law, Helen Stearns.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, July 20 at the Hillside Cemetery in East Stoneham. There will be a gathering after the service at 770 Waterford Road, Norway.
