Roy V. Norris

OXFORD — Roy V. Norris, 87, of Oxford passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. He was born June 15, 1925 on Peaks Island, son of Betsy (Smith) and Harold Norris. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Gunners Mate during WWII and the Korean War.

After his service to his country, he continued his service to the community in many ways. He was a cook in his younger days with Deering Ice Cream, a Med-tech at Pineland Center, sold Hammond Organs to music lovers, real estate, a painter for Phil Smith and a business owner with his wife Ada in Oxford.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, watching the Red Sox, dining at the many restaurants in the area and spending time with family and many friends.

Mr. Norris is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ada (Shaw) Norris of Oxford; daughters, Phyllis and husband Allen Sommers of Oregon and Lynn and husband David McDermott of Texas; grandchildren, Finnian Norris of Oregon, Patrick McDermott, Katie (McDermott) Marchland and Erin McDermott of Texas; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alberta (Shaw) Stevens of Belgrade, Sandra (Shaw) and husband Robert Sturgeon of Windham; brother-in-law, Glen Shaw and wife Rosa of Togus and cousin, Richard Norris of Massachusetts, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Ernie Norris and Robert Norris.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 5 at 10 a.m. at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery (the Old Cemetery), Civic Center Drive in Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Maine Veteran’s Home, 477 High St. So. Paris, ME 04281.
