Kenneth C. Swan
PARIS — Kenneth C. Swan, 85, of Paris Hill, died Monday, July 2, 2012 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Woodstock December 17, 1926, the son of Porter and Verna Whitman Swan. He graduated from Woodstock High School. After high school, he faithfully served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. After the military, he worked for Goodwin's Dairy as a short order cook. On October 1, 1950, he married Nellie Lapham. He drove truck for Ellis Kahkonen for a while before going to work for Bolster's, installing carpet. In 1978 he started his own business, known as Ken & Fred's. Then in 1994 the business was changed to Ken & Thom's. Mr. Swan retired in 1999, selling the business to Thom.
He loved to take trips to Boothbay and Bar Harbror; he loved to fish at Newsoudehunc, Little Kennebago and GrandLake Stream.
He has been a member of the First Congregational Church of South Paris since 1966, where he was a member of the choir. He was also a member of the Barbershoppers, the Locke Mills Union Church Christmas Cantata and an honorary member of the McGregor family.
Mr. Swan is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; a daughter, Linda (Swan) Mitchell and husband Vernon; a son, Alan Swan; two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Andrea) Hoyt and Mrs. Arlene McKillop; a brother, Keith Swan; a special aunt, Clara Whitman; a granddaughter, Katie Swan; step-grandchildren, Dale Mitchell, Vance Mitchell and Bart Mitchell and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday evening, July 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oxford Hills and Weston Funeral Services, 1037 Main St., Route 26 in Oxford. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in South Paris with the Rev. Donald Mayberry officiating.
The family would like everyone to send a special memory that you might have of Mr. Swan to his wife or just bring it to the visiting hours or the funeral.
Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in South Paris. In lieu of flowers, donations for a memorial fund for the First Congregational Church may be sent to the First Congregational Church, 17 East Main St., South Paris, ME 04281.
