OXFORD — Gene A. Stephens, 84, of Oxford, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway with his loving family by his side. He was born in Hampden on July 21, 1927, son of Audbury D. and Lucy (Rockwell) Stephens.

He was a carpenter for many years, retiring from Oxford Homes.

He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, playing cribbage, visiting with family and spending time with his dog, Coco.

Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife, Lynne Stephens; children, Eleverine Thomas and husband Robert of Caribou, David and wife Katherine Stephens of Oxford, Jacqueline and husband Michael Garey of Mechanic Falls, Daniel Stephens of Georgia and Michelle and husband John Banville of Wales; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sister, Archa Thompson.

Family and friends attended visiting hours on Friday, June 29 at Oxford Hills and Weston Funeral Services, 1037 Main St., Route 26, Oxford. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 5 at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Stephens' memory to Responsible Pet Care, P.O. Box 378, Norway, ME 04268.
