John Danforth
WOODSTOCK — John Danforth of North Conway, NH and Woodstock passed away peacefully February 9, 2013 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness. At his side at the time of his passing, were his beloved mother, Theresa Andrews Theriault; his partner, Bruce Goodwin; his father, John Cox, III; his paternal grandmother, and his best friend, Brian Wilson. He was surrounded by love, compassion, prayers and the open arms of Jesus in his final days.
Mr. Danforth was a strong willed, self made man who excelled at all he did. From being a C.N.A. and a mental health counselor, he was also known for breeding, training and showing his championship Weimaraner dogs at Northstar Kennels that he founded in 2003. He loved nothing more than to show his prize winning dogs up and down the east coast of the United States.
He could run faster, hike, bike, climb, swim and was always ready to compete and win. He could also move faster from table to table to slot machine to slot machine at the casinos and always come out winning. This also went for the racetrack, where he wouldn’t miss a race, and was always sure to pick a winner. However, his proudest accomplishment was designing and building his beautiful log home on the side of Mollyockett Mountain in Woodstock.
Besides his mother Theresa, his partner Bruce; father John III and best friend Brian, Mr. Danforth leaves behind his brother, Joseph Cox; sister, Halaigh Bonney; his paternal grandmother and maternal grandparents. He also leaves many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and his buddy, Chester Brown.
A Memorial service will be held by the Andrews, Theriault and Goodwin families on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. at the Waterford Congregational Church. A celebration of his life will be held immediately following the service at the Wilkins Community House, next door to the church from 1:30 to 4 p.m. (Route 118 west out of Norway, turn left onto Route 37. Follow to junction of 37 and 35, church and hall on the right.) A buffet of his favorite foods will be served. All friends are welcome to come and share stories, pictures, prayers and how he may have touched your life in his special way. They will never have another "John Boy" in their lives again; however, he will live on in their hearts and memories forever.
Mr. Danforth's ashes will be taken to the top of Grafton Notch in the spring and spread over the mountains. He always said he wanted to be close with nature and close to the heavens, and his family will bring him on one last hike. Please join in for their final goodbyes. There will be a sign up book for this hike at the service. Memorial donations may be sent to www.appalachiantrail.org/donate/donateform, www.weimeranerrescuedonationsme.org or barbarabushchildrenshospital@mainemed.com.
