SUMNER — Phyllis Irene Corson, 85, of Sumner died peacefully surrounded by family February 5, 2013 at Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris where she had been a resident since 2008. She was born August 11, 1927, the daughter of Ada Mitchum and Herman Tyler. One of 12 children, she grew up on the family farm located in Phillips. Her education began in a one-room schoolhouse and she later graduated from Phillips High School.

She married Ellery Corson on April 4, 1952. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Auburn, later attending services regularly at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Turner. She retired from C. F. Wells in Buckfield at the age of 75. She also worked for Wilner Wood Products, Decoster Egg Farms, Maine Apple Growers and Greenwood Orchards. She was well known for her delicious strawberries and her beautiful handmade Christmas wreaths. She took much pride in her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved yard sales and doing wood crafts.

Mrs. Corson is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ellery; four sons, Steve Corson and wife Peggy, Steve Robert Campbell and wife Candy, Eugene Corson and wife Patty and William Corson and wife Robin; two daughters, Beverly Parsons and husband Dan and Diana Smith and husband Michael. Shewas blessed with 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Linwood Tyler and George “Pop” Tyler; sisters, Janet Crocker, Lena Selko and Arvilla Petet and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by brothers, Bill Tyler, Albert Tyler, Ray Tyler and Everett Tyler; sisters, Estelle Frasier and Corrine Ross and her first husband, Edward Campbell.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 10 at Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Andrews Chapel, 64 Andrews Rd., Bryant Pond. Interment will be in the spring in Phillips.
