Would you rather pay more in taxes or lose services?

I'd go for a reasonable combination. I'd cut services where it's reasonable, but it's pretty tough – I think taxes may need to go up.

Pay more taxes. We seem to be losing everything, so I'd hate to lose even more.

As a retired public educator, I agree it would be better to raise taxes than cut back on services, because we need them. I would hope any increase would not be used wastefully, however, but to support what we need, particularly education.

The services you get to the tax ratio, it's a good bang for your buck. That's what government is for – to provide services. That's why you pay taxes.

I'd pay more taxes. There's already too few services; there's nothing left to cut.

I think if they didn't pay so many people to give free methadone every morning we wouldn't have to skimp so much. They would rather pay for drug addicts to get free drugs than people have heat, or the elderly to have Medicare. What are we doing with all the money going to the Army? We haven't had a war in forever.

I would rather pay a little more in taxes, because services right now are important. The school system needs hours, but they could probably cut back on hours at the post office; or even the town hall could cut back on hours a bit. Everything else, we need.

I think we could cut back on town office hours. There are too many people [working] for what they do. We could cut in a lot of different areas.

It would depend on the services. I think the only one to cut back on is town office hours. All the other services are necessary.

Do I want higher taxes? Of course not, but it costs more each year to live. There are a lot of things that need to be funded that I'd rather not do without. The people who take care of our streets and the police who watch over us and our children deserve to get an increase in pay. I suppose it depends on the amount we're talking about but of course higher taxes would be expected under these circumstances.
