Local legislators receive committee appointments
REGION — Joint Standing Committee appointments have been announced for local Senators and Representatives joining the 126th Maine Legislature.
Senator John Patrick (D-Rumford) will chair the Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development Committee and serve on the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee. Patrick, who represents northern Oxford County, including West Paris, Buckfield, Sumner, Hartford and Waterford, is entering his second term as a State Senator.
Freshman Senator James Hamper (R-Oxford), whose district covers much of Oxford County including Oxford, Norway, Paris, Otisfield and Harrison will join the Health and Human Services Committee.
Second-term Representative Jeffrey Timberlake (R-Turner), whose district covers Turner, Hebron and Minot will join the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee.
Tom Winsor (R-Norway), entering his sixth term as a representative for Norway, Greenwood, Waterford and West Paris will return to the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee.
Lisa Villa (D-Harrison) a freshman representative for Harrison, Bridgton, Lovell, Stow and Sweden, will serve on the Judiciary Committee.
Representative Terry Hayes (D-Buckfield), who won reelection to a fourth term for her district covering Buckfield, Sumner, Hartford and Paris will serve on the State and Local Government Committee.
Freshman representative Roger Jackson (R-Oxford), whose district covers Oxford, Mechanic Falls and Otisfield, will serve on the Taxation Committee.
The first regular session of the 126th Legislature convened on December 5 and has a statutory adjournment date of June 19.
