Hayes reelected to house seat after recount
BUCKFIELD — Representative Terry Hayes (D-Buckfield) has held onto her seat after a recount last Wednesday, winning a fourth term in the State House.
Hayes represents District 94, which covers Paris, Hartford, Sumner and Buckfield.
According to vote totals released by the Secretary of State's Office, Hayes received 2,338 ballots, beating her opponent, Timothy Turner (R-Buckfield) by only 42 votes.Turner received 2,296 votes.
Unofficial results prior to the recount gave Hayes 2,260 votes to Turner's 2,226.
When informed of the results last Thursday, Turner said he was glad to have done so well for a first-time candidate running against an incumbent.
He said a personal issue had prevented him from campaigning as much as he would like but he was contemplating another run for office in the future.
Hayes expressed relief that the recount was over and thanked her opponent for a good race during a Thursday telephone interview.
"I'm glad to get past it and get on to the work of a new session," Hayes said.
"I plan to represent the constituents in my four towns and I welcome their feedback and input; I do better work when they stay in touch."
Hayes said she would receive a committee appointment in the next legislative session, instead of having a leadership role.
Hayes served as Assistant Minority Leader in the last session.
