Hunter transported by LifeFlight after falling from tree
PARIS — A man who fell out of a tree stand while hunting behind his home Monday was transported by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, said Paris Fire Chief Brad Frost.
Brett Sessions, 53, of Park Street, was hunting in the woods about 150 yards from the road when he fell approximately 15 feet out of a tree stand, Frost said.
Frost said Sessions was attempting to climb down from the tree stand after shooting a deer when he slipped and fell.
According to Frost, Sessions suffered a broken femur and was taken by LifeFlight to CMMC due to the extent of the injury and the time it took to get Sessions safely out of the woods after his fall.
Frost said Sessions' wife was home when the accident happened. Paris Firefighter and EMT Darryl Rugg said firefighters were called to the scene around 3:45 p.m. LifeFlight was called at 4:38 p.m.
"He was in the woods and we had to carry him out to the power line," Frost said. "We got a pick-up [truck] in there to get him out to the landing zone," he explained. "It took some time."
Frost estimated it took an hour and 20 minutes, from the time Sessions fell to his evacuation by LifeFlight.
Rugg said firefighters attempted to search for the dead deer to get it out of the woods after the accident, but it has not been found.
Sessions did not suffer any other unjuries, Frost said. In addition to the Paris Fire Department, PACE ambulance also responded to the scene, he said.
