Woman dies in school bus crash

BRIDGTON —  A 74-year-old woman from Casco was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash around 7 a.m. Monday after her minivan crossed the center line on Route 302 and collided with a school bus, reported the Bridgton Police Department.

According to police, Jacqueline Ingalls was the only occupant in the vehicle, a 1989 Plymouth minivan, when it crashed.

According to a police statement, the crash occurred in an area known as Packard's Hill, near 566 Portland Road and involved a school bus from the Lake Region School District.

Police reported that a preliminary investigation indicates the bus was traveling southbound and the van was traveling northbound when both vehicles collided head-on.

The road was closed for about three hours.

Police are still investigating what caused Ingalls to swerve across the center line.

Three students and 62-year-old driver, Blair Watson of Naples, who were on the bus during the accident were transported to Bridgton Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The accident remains under investigation. It is being reconstructed by crash reconstruction specialists from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department.
