Paris chooses town manager

PARIS — Selectmen have chosen a new town manager, but cannot release more information until the board signs a contract with the candidate.

In a phone interview last week, Board Chair Sam Elliot confirmed the board had chosen a candidate for the position.

"We've kind of picked the person we like and if we get together on a contract we'll be alright," said Elliot.

He estimated the contract would be finalized by the next selectmen's meeting, November 13.

In June, the board voted not to renew former Town Manager Phil Tarr's contract for another year.

The board finalized a separation agreement with Tarr in late September, buying out the remainder of his contract for more than $20,000.

The application deadline for the position was September 10. The town received 52 applicants, from across the country, for the position.

According to a draft search schedule drawn up by the board in mid-August, the new town manager would start in early January.
