Board makes rec. committee appointments
OXFORD — Six appointments have been made to the town's recreation committee, bringing the number of members to nine.
During its November 1 meeting, the board of selectmen reappointed Pam Lovely for a one-year term, and appointed Phil Richardson and Meggan McPhail for three-year terms and Lawrence Sanborn, Ryan Kane and Norman Turgeon to two-year terms.
Tracey Cox, Ashley Herrick and Lois Pike are current members of the committee.
In July, the board decided to hold off appointments to the recreation committee in order to update the committee's bylaws.
The board approved the amended bylaws at its October 18 meeting.
The amended bylaws allow 11 members on the committee, but the board chose to leave the number of appointments at nine, although four active applications remain.
Committee Chairwoman Pam Lovely questioned why the board was appointing some of the applicants and not others.
She wondered if some of the people who turned in applications were even still interested in joining the committee, considering none of them had attended a meeting.
Selectman Roger Jackson similarly questioned why the board was leaving two spots open on the committee.
Selectman Scott Owens, who directed the appointments, said the board should leave it at nine.
If applicants decided they did not want to join the committee, then the board would reconsider the applicants and make additional appointments, Owens said.
Town Clerk Ellen Morrison reported that many of the applications had been received within the past month and some in the past few days.
