Re-elect Steve Merrill county commissioner
NORWAY — Steve Merrill has announced his campaign for reelection to his fifth full term as a County Commissioner in District 1.
“My district encompasses the towns of Bethel, Brownfield, Denmark, Fryeburg, Hanover, Hiram, Lovell, Norway, Porter, Stow, Sweden, and Waterford. I also represent Batchelder’s Grant and Mason Township.
In reality, a commissioner represents every one of more than 56,000 residents of Oxford County while performing the duties of the office. It is my pleasure to serve each and every one.” Now completing his 18th year of service, Steve considers this upcoming term to be the most exciting time in his tenure as a Commissioner.
"We have a very dynamic board, and compliment of department heads, that continue to improve the way we conduct our daily business and deliver services to our constituents.”
Throughout his years of service, Steve has always made himself accessible to his constituents, co-workers, and peers in county government around the state. Steve considers communications as the key to any successful relationship and the continuance for learning something new each day.
“I’m fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn from former Commissioners Norm Ferguson and Jim Carey, both of whom served over 26 years each in this office.”
Steve has also represented Oxford County for over 14 years on the Maine County Commissioners Association in Augusta, where he served as President in 2002.
Steve grew up in South Paris, attended Oxford Hills High School and the University of Maine in Orono where he majored in Business Administration.
Professionally, Steve worked for 26 years in the building supply business for Swan Supply in Norway.
For the past 14 years he has been employed in the modular home industry where he sells modular homes, panelized structures, real estate, and performs general contracting services. “I have always been a “people person” and worked in a very public venue, where I have enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people over the years.”
In addition to serving the public, Steve has a long list of involvement in the community as a member of the Oxford Lodge, Paris Lodge, Oxford Hills Rotary, former director of the Chamber of Commerce, former Vice-Chairman of the Norway Planning Board, Sons of the American Legion, board member for the U. of Maine Bryant Pond 4-H Camp and Learning Center, board member of Western Maine Economic Development Council, and various others.
Steve lives on Thurston Road, Norway, with his wife Carol. They have three daughters and two grandsons and enjoy spending time at family gatherings. Steve’s daughter Christina Wilcox, an accountant in Portland, is serving as his treasurer.
“In the past four years we have increased the focus on strategic and long range planning. I would be pleased to continue working to meet these goals.”
Steve Merrill would welcome your participation in his campaign and may be reached at 592-2554 or by e-mail at merrillx3@myfairpoint.net.
