Paris land ordinance is subject of meeting

PARIS — The Paris Land Use Advisory Committee will conduct its second public meeting to seek public input on provisions in the Land Management Ordinance.

This meeting will discuss the proposed General Growth, South Paris Main Street and Route 26 Corridor Districts and will be on Thursday, October 11 at 7 p.m. at the Paris Town Office.

Committee Chairman Dennis Creaser said, “The first meeting that discussed the Paris Hill Historic District was very well attended, and I hope this one will be, too.”

The Land Management Ordinance is a type of zoning ordinance that proposes to create five different districts covering the town. The draft Land Management Ordinance contains a Table of Land Uses that identifies the type of uses that would be allowed or not allowed in each of the districts.

It also contains the lot size and street frontage requirements for each district. These districts and lot sizes are based on recommendations in the Comprehensive Plan adopted at the June 2007 town meeting.

The proposed Growth District includes locations for residential development, commercial and manufacturing. It includes those portions of Paris that are served by public infrastructure that are generally in a condition to accept new growth and areas where new growth can be served by existing municipal services.

The South Paris Main Street District is intended to enhance the appeal of Main Street through South Paris by allowing flexible lot sizes and setbacks and guiding the design of redevelopment through standards in the Site Plan Review Ordinance.

Route 26 Corridor District from Market Square to West Paris will provide for locations for business expansion, new businesses and an attractive gateway to Paris.

Copies of the ordinances are available at the Town Office.
