Oxford 'summer' road work delayed
OXFORD — Reclamation work on several town roads will be delayed and one project may need to be put off until next year, reported Town Manager Michael Chammings at the September 6 selectboard meeting.
Several road projects in town require reclaiming old pavement – grinding it up and laying it back down as a base.
Chammings said that the company the town usually uses to reclaim its roads has been behind on its other jobs.
He said that in the seven years the town has worked with the company, this is the first time it has had a problem.
As a result of the delays, Oxford's road projects have been put back and reclaiming may not begin until September 17, Chammings reported.
The roads slated for work include Gore Road, Number Six Road, Pottle Road and Rabbit Valley Road.
Chammings feared that, with the roadwork season rapidly drawing to a close, the town may need leave one of the projects until next year.
According to Chammings, Pottle Road, where town waterlines are being installed and Gore Road, where there has been a washout, are the town's priority. Number Six Road was third on the list, he said.
Chammings suspected that work on Rabbit Valley Road would be reduced to paving a section. He said the rest of the work could be completed next year.
In other news the board:
• Appointed Michael Chammings as the town's Public Access Officer, as required by a state law that recently went into effect.
• Approved a motion for Vice Chair Scott Owens to sign a loan agreement with the Maine Bond Bank. The town intends to repay a loan from Bob Bahre and fund the Pottle Road waterline project.
