License hearing for new restaurant set

BUCKFIELD — A public hearing on a liquor license application for a new restaurant and bar that is planned for the town, will be held prior to the board meeting on September 18 at 6 p.m.

At the September 5 board meeting, the owner of the new establishment, Jason Rowe, told the board that he planned on employing 10 people at the restaurant.

Town Clerk Cindy Dunn informed the selectmen that the proposed license would need to conform to a specific category of liquor license previously approved by voters in a referendum.

After reviewing the license category, Dunn and Rowe confirmed that his license could be approved without another referendum.

Rowe also requested the board grant a special entertainment permit for his new establishment. He said he planned on hosting live music on some weekend nights.

Dunn informed board members and Rowe that, because the town does not currently have a special entertainment ordinance, it cannot grant a permit, according to legal advice she received from Maine Municipal Association.
