Greenwood man dies when struck by logging pulley

GREENWOOD —  A local man died on the scene after being struck in the chest and side of the head with a pulley while cutting down trees at his home, said State Trooper Jason Wing.

"In Greenwood, there were a couple of projects, where they were trying to cut down some trees; they were using ropes to make sure the tree fell in a certain direction," said Wing, who responded to the accident that occurred around 10:30 a.m. on August 29.

Timothy J. Devine, 43, was an avid woodsman, according to his obituary.

"One of the ropes snapped and the pulley came back and struck [Devine] in the upper chest and side of the head," said Wing.

According to Wing, Devine's parents, as well as a friend and the friend's mother were present when the incident occurred. Wing said the friend's mother performed CPR on Devine immediately after the incident, but could not revive him.

PACE Ambulance also responded to the home, said Wing, but unfortunately Devine passed away at the scene.
