Truck crashes, catches fire, driver escapes unhurt

CHARRED — Brian Varney, 23, of Bridgton lost control of this 1988 GMC pickup around 3 a.m. on July 29 on Gore Road and crashed it into a tree, sending it up in flames, said Otisfield Fire Chief Mike Hooker. According to Hooker, the driver was lucky to make it out of the vehicle without any injuries. Hooker said the impact of the crash broke the frame of the vehicle, and that he was surprised the driver didn't get trapped inside.
