New security system going to cost $9,200

WEST PARIS — Installing a security system at three or more town locations would cost the town about $9,200, said selectmen at their June 28 meeting. They agreed that installing a system would be the best way to deter burglars and vandals.

"The alarm is going to scare them away and call the police," Town Manager John White told selectmen, "and the camera shows you a picture of who did it."

The town has experienced break-ins at the town's athletic field and transfer station, warranting the need for an alarm and camera system. Selectmen said that installing a system at the town office is also necessary.

Based on a proposal from Great Falls Security, White said that installing a camera system at the ball field would cost the town about $1,700.

Installing a camera system at the town office and nearby fire station would cost the town $4,575. An alarm and camera system at the transfer station, including $240 a year for monitoring, would cost a total of $2, 925.

White said that he would ask Great Falls Security whether all the systems can be monitored right from the town office.

The board will schedule a special town meeting to appropriate the funds from the town's transfer station fund, the town's unappropriated surplus account and possibly the town office fund for the purchases, said White.
