Paris special election July 19
PARIS — Nomination papers are now available for candidates in a special election to fill a one-year term on the Paris Board of Selectmen vacated by Ted Kurtz.
On Monday, selectmen voted to approve a shortened nomination process for the seat.
The papers must be returned to the town office by July 9 – the election will be held July 19.
The abrupt resignation of Ted Kurtz from the board on June 18 left the seat vacant.
In an email to former Chairman Bob Kirchherr, Kurtz said that he needed to devote his time to his law firm after the departure of Allen Perry, his only partner.
The winner of the election will hold the seat until 2013.
In other news, the board:
• Elected Sam Elliot as Chairman of the Board and Bob Kirchherr as Vice-Chair.
• Approved an agreement with Community Concepts to administer the town's General Assistance Program.
• Approved the $95,920 purchase of a 2012 International truck chassis and the $157,145 purchase of a new Trackless sidewalk tractor.
• Voided an inter-local General Assistance agreement with Norway.
• Authorized the town manager to sign a Real Estate Broker agreement with Paris Cape Realty for the town's old fire station. Paris Cape recommended an asking price of $70,000-$75,000 for the property.
• Authorized the town manager to work with the Norway town manager to adjust the inter-local agreement on sharing police services.
• Adopted a new building permit fee schedule. Code Enforcement Officer Jerry Samson told the board that new state regulations would increase the amount of time to inspect new buildings, increasing the cost of permitting.
• Appointed Michael Risica as an alternate to the planning board for a five-year term.
