Fence discussed between transfer station, property

HEBRON —  The owner of an abutting property to the town's transfer station has expressed concern that some of the station's equipment is encroaching on his land, announced Selectman Dan Eichorn at the June 25 selectmen's meeting.

The news has prompted the board to consider installing a fence or some other barrier between the two properties.

"It looks to me like they've crept a little further down the line than they used to be," said Eichorn of the equipment.

But he is not entirely sure whether the equipment is within the 100-foot setback between the station and the abutting property.

According to Eichorn, this is not the first time the issue has come up.

Eichorn said that based on previous measurements, neither the sheds nor recycling bins appeared to be within the 100-foot setback.

Eichorn asked board members whether they thought it would "be worthwhile to discuss getting someone in there ... to make sure it's [measurements are] correct and put up a snow fence, rope or something to indicate where the setback is."

He said that the divider would help assure the bins don't drift onto the neighboring property and to prove where the properties meet.

The other board members agreed this was the best option.

Selectman Jim Reid said that he would measure the setback using 100-foot tape and mark it with stakes, even though he believes the town is "not encroaching on his [the property owner's] land."

The board will contact the property owner to see whether he agrees to a 100-foot setback, before proceeding to install a fence.

In other news, the board:

• Issued Harold Brooks a mass gathering license for the Redneck Rodeo to take place June 29 to July 1.

• Heard from Selectman Dan Eichorn that a sign at the transfer station has disintegrated and that he will check with AVCOG about replacing the sign.

• Announced that the paving of Allen Road is slated to begin the second week of July.
